PAHM 66 Day Habit Challenge

Starting the new year, like many others, I wanted to set some goals for myself. It is always nice to have a fresh start. Some of these goals consisted of:

  1. No soda
  2. Drink more water.
  3. Get into the gym at least three days a week.
  4. Take one picture a day with my “real” camera.
  5. Water the plants once a week.

When people look at this list, you may think…. Well, that is easy enough. And it should be easy, right? However, I am in shock at how mindful and prepared I have be to do “just” these five things.

study conducted by researchers at the University of Scranton found that 23% of people quit their resolution after just one week. And only 19% of individuals are actually able to stick to their goals long term (two years, in the case of the study).

It’s hard to create habits Y’all!

Why is drinking water SO hard? Please tell me I’m not alone.

The results of changing these five things has been great.

 18 days in…

 I’ve lost SEVEN pounds.

I’m the strongest I’ve been in a really long time.

I feel so…. much…. better.

My plants are not dying! Apparently water heals all things.

As I edit my photos, I am able to reflect upon our every day blessings.

“You’ll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.” ~ John Maxwell.

Now let’s think about our kids for a minute.  How often have you said…

“How many times do I have to tell you to brush your teeth!”

“I don’t want to have to tell you again, go clean your room!”

Kids are no different. It’s hard to form a habit.  New research out there suggests it takes approximately 66 days.

66 days!

I would love to challenge you all to pick ONE thing that you and your child are working on, and do it with them every day for 66 days.

I can get to the gym a lot easier when I have a partner saying “Come on!  Let’s go!  I will go with you.”

I’m much more likely to not drink soda when I’m sitting down at the dinner table.. and everyone has water with me.

I’m taking more pictures now that I’m in a photography group. I can share my work and be inspired by others.

I tried this with my 8 year old at the end of last year.

Every night before bed we would take 5 minutes and pick up her room. After a couple months of doing it together, she now does it on her own every… single… night.

My conclusion:

Our habits are easier to form and stick with when we have human connection.
