We are working on multiplication with my 8 year old. She is in that stage where she knows how to do EVERYTHING… and she is going to do it all by herself. She loves practicing her multiplication facts the good ole fashion way with flashcards.
She loves the independence she has when practicing facts this way.
“I can just memorize them all myself, Mom!”
This is great!
I love that she is self-driven and motivated. However, I want her to know why she is getting those answers as well. We talked about arrays and skip counting, etc. Again, she had no interest in me teaching her.
I knew I had to give her an outlet that was completely independent.
I set this up in the playroom and didn’t say a word. I wanted her to approach it and become curious on her own accord.
Sure enough, a few hours later, I saw her in the playroom exploring. She had taken the white board off the wall and had it on the ground.
As you can see, she still didn’t want me anywhere near the learning. LOL!
I love that she used different colors!
Finished.
