BALLOON BOATS

Apparently March is coming in like a lion a bit early this year.  It’s February and we are having thunderstorms – weird.  Sometimes a nice hard rain can be a gift, like the day mother nature gave us a RIVER.

After the storm today, my son wanted to go outside and do some Fart Bombs.  The bags inflate and pop, leaving a horrible odor…..apparently that’s incredibly fun when you are five (or 41 ;) ).  Well, one of the bags failed to pop and instead got caught in the current of the water running down the street…..which led us to balloon boats.  I simply blew up some balloons and sent them down “river”.  It was an hour of fun for my son and I to connect through play.  We also talked about currents and why the smaller balloons moved faster than the larger ones.

Other ideas:

track colors – “you caught the RED balloon”

counting – “you caught 4 balloons”  (or count them as they are caught)

dialogue about sink versus float
